We are investigating how fundamental cellular processes are coordinated with metabolism and the metabolic state of the cell. We often use the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in our studies to discover fundamental regulatory principles, but we are also expanding our research to include mammalian systems. Our findings have begun to show that small molecule metabolites play very underappreciated roles in the regulation of cell growth and homeostasis. The influence and importance of the metabolic state on cell regulation are far too often overlooked; we aim to decipher these very mechanisms.
